Less than two weeks to go...
Hello
everyone!
The new building is now almost complete and ready to open to the public
at 4am on Wednesday 26th April. It seems crazy that almost four years
on from the initial planning and development of the building we are now finally
almost at the point of opening! So much hard work has been put in by both
clinical and non-clinical colleagues to get to this point.
The deep clinical clean has now been completed, and staff
familiarisation continues in the new building. Our IT team have also been
working hard to install all of the kit and ensure connectivity in preparation
for ‘go live’. E-obs is scheduled to be introduced to the current ED on
Wednesday 19th April along with a NerveCentre Upgrade in readiness
for the move. There will be plenty of support from the IT department and NerveCentre team during this time – staff should be able to identify these
individuals by their bright yellow t-shirts!
The picture above shows the paediatric Emergency Department entrance.
This is now almost complete and we’re sure you will agree looks so much more
welcoming than the current entrance.
The picture above shows the adult entrance (left) as well as the
entrance where ambulances will be arriving to drop patients off (right). Having
a separate arrivals area for ambulances should improve privacy and dignity for our
patients. As the picture above shows, there is still some work to be done on
the landscaping outside this entrance.
Following the opening of the new Emergency Department, the Balmoral
main entrance will be closed in order for building work for Phase 2 of the
Emergency Project to commence. Please see below the updated Leicester Royal
Infirmary site map. This shows that the main entrance will now be located at
the Windsor building as well as the location of the new Emergency Department on
the site.
We hope you have enjoyed this update, and enjoy your long Easter
weekends. There will now only be one more blog post posted before the new
department opens!
Best wishes,
The
Emergency Floor Project Team.
