35 days to go!

Hi Everyone,

After three years in the making, we have now officially taken ownership of our new Emergency Department from Interserve Construction team. The Department is looking fantastic! Thank you to everyone who has been involved to date for all their hard work to get us to this point.

Above: Our Chief Executive John Adler receiving the keys for the new building.
As we move towards the opening on Wednesday 26 April, the construction team will be putting the finishing touches to the department, our IT team will ensure that all of the technology is working, whilst the ED team will start to familiarise themselves with the new space.  Colleagues from other parts of our organisation who provide direct patient care within ED will then be invited to look round the department with their teams.  Finally before the opening our cleaning crew will do a thorough clean and decontamination (deep clean) before the doors open to the first patients at 4am on Wednesday 26 April.

Following handover, there is still a small amount of construction work going on which should be completed by Monday 3rd April. Whilst most of this work is focused on completing the exterior of the building, internally the department is really starting to take shape:

Above: The children’s hospital rocket motif has been installed in the Paediatric Waiting Area. This was paid for by charitable funding.

Above: The staff base is ready for IT to be installed.

Above: A selection of our Majors Bays. All of these have glass doors (as well as curtains) to minimise noise levels experienced by patients.  The slanted design provides greater manoeuvrability for beds to be moved in and out of the bays.

Above: The main reception desk in the adult’s entrance is now in place.

We hope you have enjoyed this update and look forward to bringing you more information and pictures soon. The next post should have updates on deliveries and the installation of equipment within our three paediatric play areas.

Best wishes,
The Emergency Floor Project Team.
